Original German WWII Heer Medical Administrative Official Oberleutnant Dienstrock With IAB – Unit Marked Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely Oberleutant’s Administrative Official’s Dienstrock with beautiful insignia and Infantry Assault Badge. This is an Alter Art Dienstrock, or Old Style Service Dress, and would have been the everyday uniform for the original owner in his day to day service activity. The key characteristics are the 8-button front, French cuffs, a tall & stiffened collar, and the slash pockets below the waist line.

The tunic appears to be without any major damage, save for the few expected moth nips. The breast eagle featured on the right side is in a beautiful condition and constructed of silver bullion with only minor wear. The Shoulder Boards are the “sewn on” type and feature a single rank pip on the left side with the “AH” devices as seen with Administrative Officials and Judiciary Officials. The backing of the boards are blue, signifying medical department use. The bullion style officer collar tabs feature a lovely blue service designation in the centers and are in great condition. There is a buttonhole ribbon that represents that he received iron cross 2nd class, multiple medal loops on the tunic indicate that he also received multiple medals for a ribbon bar and on the lower left breast pocket there is an Infantry Assault Badge. The IAB is in Bronze and is constructed of bronzed zinc. Over time, the bronze can wear and flake off, showing the oxidized base metal, which is zinc. This example however still has quite a bit of the original bronze color, something we very rarely see. The steel pinback also retains quite a bit of the bronzing.

There is stamping present on the inside left lining, and appears to be size information as well as a unit.

The Infantry Assault Badge (Infanterie-Sturmabzeichen) was a German war badge awarded to Waffen-SS and Wehrmacht Heer soldiers during the Second World War. This decoration was instituted on 20 December 1939 by the Commander-in-Chief of the German Army, Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch. It could be awarded to members of non-motorized Infantry units and units of the Gebirgsjäger that had participated in infantry assaults, with light infantry weapons, on at least three separate days of battle in the front line on or after 1 January 1940. When a counter offensive led to fighting, it could also apply. Award of the Infantry Assault Badge was authorized at regimental command level.
