Original German WWII Heer Army Stabsoffizier Major’s Summer Tunic With Krim Shield and Ribbon Bar Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic example of an officer battle field tunic or Summer tunic. It is cotton construction with WW2 German Army Major’s Stabsoffizier (field officer) tunic. Officers had to supply their own uniforms, and they were usually obtained from private tailors. This beautiful tunic is untouched, and in excellent overall condition. The tunic itself is made of a gray/green cotton. The front closes with six pebbled buttons with anchor rings to the reverse. The attractive Army breast eagle is hand embroidered in aluminum bullion, and is hand stitched to the chest. The collar tabs are wonderful high quality thick with central bullion wire decoration then machine stitched applied to the tunic.

Field-grade officer (Stabsoffizier) shoulder boards were made by plaiting together double widths of Russia braid and looping them to form a buttonhole, sewn to a Waffenfarbe underlay; rank again was displayed by zero to two gilt stars. On this example the Waffenfarbe is white and there are no gilt stars, indicating that this was worn by a Major in the infantry.

Once the war began, dull gray aluminum braids appeared, but bright aluminum continued in use.

Since the heavy wool feldgrau uniform proved to be oppressively hot in summer weather, especially in southerly latitudes, soldiers took to wearing their lightweight green fatigue uniforms in the heat. In about 1942 the Army regularized the practice: depots began issuing an official hot-weather four-pocket field uniform of feldbluse cut but made of the same reed-green HBT material.

Other features on the tunic are a lovely Krim Shield on the left shoulder and a 6 ribbon bar. The awards present on the ribbon bar are the 1914 Iron Cross, KVK 2 With Swords, “Hindenburg” Cross With Swords, The Sudetenland Medal, Memel Medal and what appears to be the Provincial Commemorative Medal 1914-1918.

This is truly a lovely example of a genuine German Officer’s summer tunic that definitely saw use in the field!
