Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition German WWII Military Administration Officer’s Schirmmütze Visor Cap, with a lovely “Crushed” shape. This “saddle-form” shape is highly desirable, and is only achieved on caps with a lot of wear and service. The cap shows high quality fabrication, made with typical Heer army feldgrau (Field Gray) green / gray wool with a forest green band and a traditional high front, with matching Black (Schwarz) piping along the top edge and flanking either side of the band. This is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for the Pioniere (Combat engineers), as well as Assault, Armored, Fortress, and Railway engineers.
This example however we know definitively that it is for a Pioneer, as the underside of the sweatband is marked Geprüft 1. / Pi. Btl. 3., or “Checked – 1st Company Pioneer Battalion 3”.
It is decorated with a well detailed zinc Reichsadler National Eagle insignia on the peak and and an open aluminum wreath surrounding a tri-color metal cockade on the band. It has the correct Silver bullion cord “chinstrap”, attached to silvered buttons, indicating that this cap is for an Officer. The visor / peak on this cap is black-finished “vulcanfibre”, the standard material for NCOs and Officers alike.
The cap is lined with cream rayon fabric and still retains the complete celulloid top diamond, marked with a logo and maker LUHUS. The gray leather sweatband is present, band in great shape, showing only light wear. Size looks to be about 57-58cm / 7 1/8 – 7 1/4. There is a felt pad under the sweatband for comfort. This definitely looks to be a bespoke cap, and not a standard issued example.
This is a very nice, high quality German Pioneer Officers peaked visor cap, offered for sale in very good condition with a beautiful saddle-form shape. Ready to display!
