Museum Quality Replica Item: The Maschinenkarabiner 42(H) or MKb 42(H) (machine carbine Model 1942 (Haenel)) was an early German assault rifle firing an intermediate round of World War II. Designed in 1940 – 1941 by Hugo Schmeisser working for C. G. Haenel Waffen und Fahrradfabrik, several thousand were made and the gun was used on the Eastern Front in 1943. The MKb 42(H), along with the less successful Maschinenkarabiner 42(W) (MKb 42(W)) by Walther Waffenfabrik AG, were predecessors of the MP 43 assault rifle. This in turn led to the MP 44 and the STG 44, the first successful assault rifle put into full scale production, which has influenced every design since.
Japanese company Shoei manufactures the highest quality, most accurate machine gun replicas on the market today. However, their MKb 42(H) has been out of production for many years, and this is the first example that we have ever encountered!
This example is Serial #0080, and it is in excellent lightly used condition. This replica is not capable of being fired, and there is no way to convert it to any type of firing weapon. The rifle is made of metal parts which are in excellent condition and have very little to no handling wear. The left side of the receiver in the groove is stamped M.Kb. 42(H), similar to the original German markings, while the right side bears the SMG SHOEI logo. The metal forearm “heat shield” and wooden buttstock are excellent and rifle features lovely wooden grip scales. Other features include a functional rear sight, a working ejection port cover, moveable selector switch, and functional trigger. You can even push out the pin on the stock cup and remove the butt stock and recoil spring.
It comes with it original MKb 42 marked magazine, and is in what looks to be the original box, though it is covered with packing tape. The box still contains much of the original packing material.
This is a high quality 1:1 full scale copy of the extremely rare and desirable MKb 42(H) machine carbine popular with modern re-enactors. Shoei manufactured these replica guns to be an exact copy and to be disassembled and operate the same as the original. These are all steel, everything moving as needed, fully cocking when the charging handle is pulled back, and trigger to fire the bolt forward.
