Original Item: Only One Available. In 1935 the German military introduced the K98k bolt action rifle or Karabiner 98 Kurz, as a replacement for the older GEW98 or Gewehr 98. The first examples had more in common than later examples, such as the rear sling attachment, which started out the same as the GEW98 fitting, but then was switched to a slot in the butt stock.
This example is the earliest configuration, with a cup butt stock & storage compartment, as well as the early pattern GEW 98 sling fitting. It is once piece of wood, not laminated like many later examples were. The two receiver area cross bolts are present, and it has both the muzzle barrel band and the sling band at the front. This looks to take the longer 12 1/2″ long cleaning rod.
There are some markings on the right butt stock, including a Waffen proof and ewx / 1943, which looks to be from when the stock or rifle was reconditioned at arsenal.
Very nice condition and ready to help put an early manufacture but later sporterized k98k back right. Measures 39 1/2 in overall length.
