Original Item: Only One Available. The combat assault A-frame packs were designed for wear with the combat Y-straps, on their development in April 1939, and were utilized by assault troops to lighten their load and still carry necessary items into battle. The assault packs were issued with a separate, small, removable bag that would be strapped to the frame and was designed to carry the K98 rifle cleaning kit, necessary underclothing and toiletries, rations and eating utensils. The assault pack was also designed to have the mess kit and quarter shelter/poncho strapped to the frame giving personnel the capability to carry all the basic necessities into battle.
This example is in wonderful condition and has a lovely original battle pack on it. The bag is closed by a flap secured by two tie tapes through small grommets at its corners. Inside the flap is a small pocket for the carbine cleaning kit. A narrow strap is attached inside the flap and further secured the bag’s contents by fastening to a button on the outside. The bag is attached to the pack frame by two small web tabs fitted with a button hole, these passing through the rectangular rings on the pack frame’s lower edges.
This bag was issued originally to serve to redistribute some items from the bread bag, e.g.: undershirt, carbine cleaning kit, eating utensils, fat container, Esbit stove, one emergency iron ration meat tin, and tent quarter rope. The overall condition is quite nice and still has all functioning hardware.
This example was previously sold by The Ruptured Duck and still retains their original guarantee from Bill and Patrick Shea that serves as a “letter of authenticity”.
