Original Item: Only One Available. This is a near excellent condition EREL Officer’s Schirmmütze Visor Cap. This is a very high quality manufactured visor. Fabricated in Army green gray wool, with wide dark green wool cap band, plus three rows of white wool piping around the circumference. The peak visor cap retains matching aluminum eagle with swas and oak leaves, along with a metal cockade with red felt center (a very rare EREL feature, as most cockades were ventilated by this manufacturer).
The cap is lined with deep golden-yellow silk and shows a near full-celluloid diamond bearing the silver-blocked Erel trademark (faded). The leather sweatband with a ventilated front and silver-blocked Erel maker-name to the side. Size of this cap is approximately 56cm. Of particular interest is a news paper page dated 1939 that is neatly folded around the inner circumference beneath the leather sweatband, evidently done to absorb moisture or provide a bit of extra padding for fit. The newspaper is the Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung. The Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung, often abbreviated BIZ, was a weekly illustrated magazine published in Berlin from 1892 to 1945. It was the first mass-market German magazine and pioneered the format of the illustrated news magazine.
This is a very nice, Double Erel, Heer Officer peak visor cap offered for sale in very good condition with a beautiful saddle-form shape.
