A wonderful honest example with a fantastic shape. This cap no longer has the crown stiffener installed, so it has a lovely “Crushed” shape. This “saddle-form” shape is highly desirable, and later in the war caps were made without stiffeners, so they would have this shape from the start.
This 1938 dated NCO Schirmmütze Visor Cap is an original high quality manufactured cap. It is fabricated in Luftwaffe grey blue wool, with wide black wool cap band, plus three rows of deep red (tiefrot) color piping around the circumference. This is the Luftwaffe Waffenfarbe (corps color) for Anti-aircraft troops and other Artillery.
The peaked visor cap retains a very nice aluminum pin Luftwaffe droop-tail eagle with swas, as well as centrally mounted aluminum oak leaves with tri-color cockade. The black patent leather chin strap and buttons are still present and in very good condition. The visor is the classic black color with stitched edge trim, made of pressed vulcanfibre.
The body with its dark piping is in very good condition, aside from a few moth hips. The size 55 1/2 liner has a tan oilcloth interior, complete with the original moisture shield. The sweatband is very nice leather, though it does have a tear on the left side. Underneath the band is an ink stamped regimental marking, which unfortunately cannot be read.
This is a great Luftwaffe NCO peaked visor cap, offered in excellent used condition, with a beautiful saddle-form shape. Ready to display!
