Original Item: Only One Available. Known by collectors as “ice cream cone” binoculars (due to the shape), these were the classic German military issue in WWII. They were made by many different optical firms during WWII, and the shape is unmistakable.
This example looks to have seen long service in the field, which resulted in the original finish / covering being removed. It looks to have then been refinished with a thick textured paint, probably with sand or sawdust mixed in, much as was used on helmets. The finish was durable, and made the body much less reflective. Unfortunately this has also completely covered up any markings on the binoculars, except the angle setting on the pivots, and the numbers on the eyepieces.
There is some oxidation on the aluminum fittings where the finish has lifted, and the barrels themselves are also missing some finish. The central hinge is also somewhat oxidized, and is a bit stiff. The optics are still clear, and work well. The eyepieces are original and intact, and both still adjust correctly. They measure approximately 9″ x 5 3/4″W x 2 1/2″.
A wonderful “service worn” set of German WWII binoculars. Patina like this can simply not be duplicated!
