Original Item: Only One Available. German WWI Ersatz butcher bayonets with their original 14″ blades are very hard to find today. The classic work by J.ANTHONY CARTER, GERMAN BAYONETS, VOLUME THREE published in 1992 is the complete work covering all types of WWI Ersatz bayonets and cherished by bayonet collectors everywhere.
Anthony Carter’s Reference EB42A appearing on Pages 104-105 is the model we offer here. Heavy Stamped steel two-piece ribbed hilt with split muzzle ring, with a 14 inch “butcher” style fullered blade, which bears a faint imperial proof on the spine. Comes complete with a correct all steel “butcher” scabbard, with an intact frog button.
Overall condition is quite good, with the blade in good condition and the handle showing a lovely patina. The blade is a little worse for wear with past pitting, staining, oxidation and nicks on the blade’s edge. The tip of the blade does appear to have been rounded off. The scabbard retains none of the original zinc plating with some rather extensive denting towards the end of the body, which does not interfere too much with sheathing the bayonet.
J. Anthony Carter died in 2001 but his four volume work is acknowledged as the supreme reference work on the subject most especially the Ersatz Volume (No.3) which was his great passion throughout his lifetime.
A nice Ersatz Bayonet Type EB42A complete with scabbard, ready to add to your collection!
