Original Item: Only One Available. German WWI Ersatz butcher sawback bayonets were often considered unwieldy, so many ended up being shortened to 10 inches for emergency issue. The classic work by J.ANTHONY CARTER, GERMAN BAYONETS, VOLUME THREE published in 1992 is the complete work covering all types of WWI Ersatz bayonets and cherished by bayonet collectors everywhere.
Anthony Carter’s Reference EB42 appearing on Pages 104-107 is the model we offer here. Heavy Stamped steel two-piece ribbed hilt with split muzzle ring, with 10 inch sawback fullered blade. This was originally a 14 inch “Butcher” style, but it was shortened by 4 inches and given a new edge profile. Overall length is 14 1/2 inches and it comes complete with a standard steel “FAG” style scabbard.
J. Anthony Carter died in 2001 but his four volume work is acknowledged as the supreme reference work on the subject most especially the Ersatz Volume (No.3) which was his great passion throughout his lifetime.
A nice Ersatz Bayonet Type EB42 complete with scabbard, ready to add to your collection!
