Original Item. Only One Available. Please note that shortly after photography the glass lens of the instrument was accidentally cracked. it is still functional and looks great but we have lowered the price accordingly.
This is an original indirect fire director that were used in conjunction with multiple MG 08 Machines Guns with overlapping fields of fire in WW1. Beautifully made in Germany these actual units were supplied to Germany’s WWI axis ally Turkey and bear some Turkish markings although all numerals are readable to the western eye.
Constructed from brass and steel with off-set optics, integral compass and level, the entire instrument rotates 360 degrees and comes equipped with special built-in hinged magnifying lens for ease of use with calibrations. The body of the instrument is painted battleship grey and traces of what we understand to be maker markings can be seen just under the paint. Not intended mounting on the weapon itself, but used on optics tripod or level surface to co-ordinate fields of fire, this became an essential accessory for trench warfare. Comes complete with leather carry case.
Exceptionally rare.
