Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition, turn of the century pickelhaube-style German Fire helmet, with a boiled leather body, brass front plate (wappen), brass central comb, and brass fittings. Central plate has a shield with the mirrored FF symbol, the standard emblem for German Firefighting units. The shield is topped by a fire helmet, with a ladder and crossed fire axes behind it, all over a banner reading BECKELN. Beckeln is a municipality in the district of Oldenburg in Lower Saxony, Germany.
Full leather lining is still intact with tie strap as is the chinstrap, which retains the correct Prussian and Imperial German cockades. The chin strap does have checking in the black finish, but is solid overall. Condition overall is very good, and this configuration was typical of the 1890-1910 period. Interior crown has two original comb anchors secured under the bolts for the top comb, indicating manufacture by LEHMANN & WUNDENBERG / HANNOVER. The comb anchor is also marked by the same maker. There are no other markings inside the helmet.
This is an unusual and very attractive item. Offered in very good condition. Size is not marked but we estimate it to be 54-56 cm.
