Original Item: Only One Available. The Deutsche Luftstreitkräfte, known before October 1916 as Fliegertruppen (Flyer Troops), was the air arm of the Imperial German Army. In English-language sources it is usually referred to as the Imperial German Air Service, although that is not a literal translation of either name. German naval aviators of the Marine-Fliegerabteilung were an integral part of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine). Both military branches operated airplanes, observation balloons and airships.
This is a lovely example of Imperial German flight goggles padded for comfort and warmth at the higher altitudes. Although this set is not marked, the construction is very similar to that of other German goggles we have had. The goggles show heavy use or wear and appear to be complete. The elastic straps are undamaged but no longer retain their elasticity, which is common on items this old. The clear lenses are undamaged and the leather pieces are still soft and malleable. The buckle on the strap has some oxidation which is to be expected. A great pair of goggles.
