Original Item: One-of-a-kind. A very well made officer cane constructed of what look to be leather or wooden washers over a steel core with a heavy white metal plated top mount. There is a wreath around the crown of the top mount, which has a row of artillery around the entire circumference of the sides. Inside the wreath is a shield with an artillery “Flaming Bomb” over 44, and under this Trier, the city where the 44th Field Artillery Regiment was Garrisoned.
The bottom of the top fitting has a banner going around the entire bottom, with the statements RESERVE HAT RUH (Rest for the Reservist) and PAROLE HEIMAT (Homeward Bound). Below this on the shaft of the stick there is an attached cannon on a carriage, the universal symbol of field artillery. Additionally, there is an attached decorative sheet metal “snake” wrapped around the shaft, and the very bottom of the cane is actually an inert rifle cartridge.
A very attractive piece, ready to research and display!
