Original Items: Only One Group of 3 Available. This is a lovely pair of items which was brought home by US Army Soldier PFC Carroll R. West (ASN:42012864) at the end of the war.
PFC Carroll enlisted in the United States Army out of New Jersey on September 23, 1943 and served honorably. He was discharged on October 18, 1945. Unfortunately we have not been able to locate service information for PFC Carroll, making this a wonderful research opportunity!
The items in this grouping:
– Bring Home Certificate: The certificate is original and states the PFC Carroll was requesting to bring home a German Luger S/N 6373, 1 Dress Sword, 1 Camera and 1 Binoculars 8×38. Unfortunately we do not have the Luger or Camera to offer with this grouping.
– Imperial German WWI Army Officer’s Lion Head Sword with Scabbard: This is a beautiful classic Lionhead German WWI Artillery Officer’s sword. The all brass alloy hilt consists of a finely detailed lion head cat with floral backstrap and “P” guard. Nicely detailed throughout his whiskers, chin, muzzle, and especially the Lion’s Mane. The handwork is beautifully rendered throughout this brass. The “P” guard has crossed swords on one side, and a shield surrounded by oakleaves on the opposite. The grip ferrule has a floral pattern as well.
The scabbard still has a good amount of the original factory black lacquer and is in great condition. There are only a few tiny dents in the steel however, and the shape is almost perfectly straight. The grip is a very nice black leather over a wood base. It is wrapped with three strands of twisted silver wire.
The 30 inch blade of this sword is in good condition, and only shows light any signs of use or abuse, mostly along the edge. These were originally intended ceremonial swords, and not really intended for cutting.
Specifications:
Blade Length: 30″
Overall length: 35 1/4”
Handguard: 4″ W x 4 3/4″L
Scabbard Length: 31”
Also included in this grouping is a lovely pair of WW2 German Officer’s 8×38 binoculars by Marine-Trieder. The lenses are still clear and easily adjustable. The leather finish is cracked and worn, but shows signs of faithful use and service during the war.
This is a lovely pair of items that were brought home by a US Soldier after WWII. Comes more than ready for further research and display!
