Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Pre-WWII German Jugenbund der NSDAP Youth Association Brass Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß) with correct leather belt. This early Youth organization only existed from about 1922 until 1926, when it was replaced by the HJ. Overseen by the SA, they utilized identical belts, with younger boys being given a scaled down version. The buckle is of two piece construction, with an embossed Nickel NSDAP Political eagle on a plain field with downward sloping wings on the front, clutching a wreathed “mobile” swas (hook cross). This is surrounded by a ribbed border with an oak leaf wreath at the bottom.
The belt itself measures about 31” when fully extended, and looks to have a name written on the inside, which we cannot make out. The leather is in very good condition, and has most of the brown finish on the outside of the belt. The interior is the correct unfinished brown leather. The leather is a bit stiff due to age, and there is cracking on the interior and exterior.
A very nice example of a hard to find German Pre-WWII Belt.
The SA, “Sturmabteilung” (Storm-troops), were originally formed in August of 1921 as a protective guard unit for the political leaders of the fledgling NSDAP Party. As with the NSDAP, “Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei” (National-socialist German Worker’s-party), the SA was structured along para-military lines. Most of its recruits were from the ranks of the various “Freikorps” groups of the day, composed mainly of disgruntled ex-soldiers, and they were first utilized at a NSDAP party meeting in Munich in November of 1921.
The SA pattern box buckle was the first belt buckle to be introduced by the NSDAP, with its estimated introductory dates ranging between 1921 and 1923. On its introduction it was not fully standardized and came in at least five variations. The SA pattern buckle was originally worn by other NSDAP organizations including the SS, the NSKK, the NSBO, and political leaders.
Beginning in 1922, a youth organization called the Jugendbund der NSDAP was founded, intended to recruit future members of the SA and NSDAP. In 1924 it was renamed the Grossdeutsche Jugendbewegung (Greater German Youth Movement), and later it was reorganized into the HJ National Youth Organization. During this early time, the younger members were equipped with a scaled down version of the SA belt and buckle, with a 34mm belt buckle and 32mm belt.
