Original German Made Model 1895 Mexican Mauser Rifle by D.W.M. Berlin serial B3843 – dated 1897 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. The Mauser Model 1895 is a bolt operated magazine fed rifle using the 7×57mm Mauser cartridge. It was exported to many overseas powers, including the Chilean forces which adopted as the Fusil Mauser Chileno Mo 1895. It is the first major modification of the Mauser Model 1893 and was produced by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken, known as DWM, and Ludwig Loewe Company from 1895 to 1900.

First supplied by the Ludwig Loewe & Co during 1895-1896 then later by the DWM (1897-1900), the Mauser model 1895 first made its appearance during a small arms race between Argentina and Chile in 1896 and 1898. In this period, over 80,000 Model 1895 rifles and 30,000 Model 1895 carbines were shipped and deployed to the Chilean army.

The Mauser Model 1895 also saw service in Mexico, Costa Rica, Paraguay, Iran, El Salvador and Honduras. Mauser Model 1895 rifles and carbines were the standard weapons of the various Mexican armies during the Mexican Revolution while the Paraguayan rifles saw combat during the Chaco War. Forces led by Pancho Villa during the Mexican Revolution and later guerilla campaign would have been armed with these rifles.

Here we have a Mexican Contract Model 1895 7mm Mauser Infantry rifle, made by the legendary D.W.M of Berlin. It has the correct Mexican arsenal markings on the top front of the receiver.

The left side of the receiver is marked with the production information:

To the left of this is serial number B3843, which is surrounded by import markings from Navy Arms Co. in Ridgefield, N.J.. The same number is stamped on the magazine floor plate, while the other serial numbers on components of the rifle are all mis-matched. This is definitely an example that saw long service, and had parts swapped out at arsenal as they became damaged.

In generally tight condition this rifle has certainly seen service but has been nicely cleaned up to be in good display Condition. The rear sight is present and fully functional, and both sling swivels are still present. The action looks fully functional, cycling correctly with a crisp dry fire. The magazine follower correctly pops up to obstruct the bolt when the magazine is empty, making sure that the soldier would remember to load a new stripper clip into the internal magazine. The bore is in good condition, with clear lands and grooves and a partly bright finish. There is some wear to the lands, and some oxidation and fouling in the grooves.

The stock definitely shows wear from years of front line service. There is no major damage, but it definitely shows soiling and wear, with a lot of small dents and dings. It possibly could be cleaned up, but that would definitely ruin the lovely patina of age it has acquired.

Another Military Contract from the Victorian era that Mauser managed to snag from all its European competitors. In lovely condition and ready to display!
