Original Item: Only One Available. Known by collectors as “ice cream cone” binoculars (due to the shape), these are classic 10×50 German military issue in WWII. Made by Hensoldt & Sohne Werke A-G in Wetzlar, Germany, this beautiful set of 10×50 binoculars is in the more desirable higher power and finished in classic black color.
This pair is marked with maker HENSOLDT WETZLAR on the eyepiece hinge, indicating that these were produced before 1941, when the company started using 3 letter code bmj. The serial number 27072 is fairly low, as by 1943 the company was well into 6 digit numbers. On the opposing side of the hinge would be the series marking DIALYT and the power is also marked with the numbers 10×50. The series marking is unfortunately chipped away.
There is some oxidation on the aluminum fittings where the finish has lifted, which has also affected the area where markings are, making them hard to read. The central hinge is also somewhat oxidized, and is very stiff. The optics are still clear, and work well, with both focus adjustments intermittently functional. The original neck strap is present.
Also included is a fine condition black leather case with a wood-lined top, where sun shields would have originally been stored. The spring-loaded catch mechanism is maker marked and dated very faintly and can’t be read. The shoulder strap for the case is missing. This is still a wonderful set complete with case offered in very nice condition.
