Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of a German made Spanish POM 1 Grenade, known as the Handgranate DT 21. This grenade was copied by and used by Germany in the early years of the Bundeswehr. A fine variation of the Spanish POM1 is this export to Germany model DT-21 in green plastic, as trialed by German forces in the 1970’s. The lightweight flap attached to the fuze cap shows some wear, but the grenade is overall in fine shape and rarely seen.
Unloaded or dummy grenades, artillery shell casings, and similar devices, which are cut or drilled in an BATF-approved manner so that they cannot be used as ammunition components for destructive devices, are not considered NFA weapons. This example is in total compliance and is NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXPORT.
The grenade itself is in wonderful condition and appears to be complete, aside from any explosive content and shrapnel. This is technically the Spanish POM-I, a high-explosive (HE), plastic, in-flight-armed, defensive and offensive, impact-fired, all-ways-acting fuze, hand grenade generally produced as HE grenades but, on order smoke and incendiary fillings can be produced that may be used with or without an external fragmentation sleeve.
The POM-I grenade is the PO-I with a fuze that incorporates a selectable fuze with a delay-only firing option and an all-ways-acting, impact-firing option with a delay-firing backup. The grenades are usually black and unmarked with a coat of arms or grenade model number moulded on the top of the safety cap. However, since this was a German production, the top green cap is marked with HGR/DT21.
This grenade has a green bakelite casing and was used as an offensive grenade and acts very largely by blast effect. The maximum effect is obtained at 2 metres and it is said to be effective at 3.5 metres with a deterrent effect at 10 metres radius. The impact fuze is similar in function to the British No 247 all-ways-acting fuze. Before use, the retaining plug is removed, the detonator is inserted and the retaining plug is replaced.
