Original Item: Only One Available. This is a “Classic” bayonet from Germany’s past, when it was still various Kingdoms, Grand Duchies, etc. This model of bayonet was introduced in 1869 by the Kingdom of Bavaria, just BEFORE the Unification of Germany as we now know it under BISMARK in 1870/71. For more information please see WATTS & WHITE THE BAYONET BOOK Page 112, item 244.
The bayonet is brass hilted with an 18 inch long “yataghan” style blade, and has a hook steel cross guard with Regimental marking 10. R. 8.. This would be for the 10th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment, “King”, raised on 29 June 1682 and garrisoned in Ingolstadt.
The bayonet comes complete with brass mounted leather scabbard, also Regimentally marked on the chape, but hard to read. The scabbard Scabbard shows almost total stitching loss to the rear but restorable. The brass wire that holes on the chape has also fallen out, so it is only held on by friction.
A very rare bayonet for use with the Werder falling block Bavarian Army Rifle. Ready to display!
