Original Item: Only One Available. This is a “Classic” bayonet from Germany’s past, when it was still various Kingdoms, Grand Duchies, etc. This model of bayonet was introduced in 1869 by the Kingdom of Bavaria, just BEFORE the Unification of Germany as we now know it under BISMARK in 1870/71. For more information please see WATTS & WHITE THE BAYONET BOOK Page 112, item 244.
The bayonet is brass hilted with an 18 1/4 inch long “yataghan” style blade, and has a hook quillon brass cross guard. These were usually made of steel, but this example has brass for some reason, most likely to fit it to another smaller caliber rifle, a common alteration. The ricasso of the blade is marked with SOLINGEN in an arc over W & ST, for the firm of Weyersberg & Stamm. We have seen other examples of the Werder M1869 bayonet by this same maker. Condition is good, with a lovely aged patina.
A very rare bayonet for use with the Werder falling block Bavarian Army Rifle, modified for later use. Ready to display!
