The French OF37 was a French Pre-WWII design hand “offensive” type hand grenade. It was put into service in 1937 together with DF 37defensive hand grenade. Both grenades were typically used with Mle 1935 fuse while a later variations used both Mle 1935 and new F3 and F5 fuses (which make the grenade look different). Visually OF 37 differs from DF 37 in that the body of OF 37 consists of two parts, while DF 37 has a solid body.
This is a blue painted practice version of the OF37, the OFX37, which originally would have been filled with chalk. It has a correct Mle.35 fuze, marked on the side with EB2 and on the lever with 33 / AMS / 57. The body itself is not marked. The grenade designation would usually be on the top half of the grenade, but on this example it has been painted black.
Condition is good, showing the expected wear from service. These were used by French forces in Vietnam prior to the war, and also almost certainly saw service with Vietnamese forces.
Very attractive and ready to display!
