Original Item: Only One Available. Here we have a lovely Napoleonic Era French flintlock overcoat pocket pistol, all iron mounted with lovely gold embellishments on all of the fittings. Even most the parts of the lock are have gold inlay on this lovely example! It is totally unmarked, most likely custom made for a well-heeled customer, and really looks great!
The pistol is small and easily concealable, the design being essentially a scaled down flintlock officer’s pistol of the time, with a lovely long eared butt cap and decoratively shaped mountings. It even has a silver “shield” escutcheon on the back of the grip! The pistol measures just 9 1/2 inches overall with a 5″ smooth barrel of about 0.46″ in bore. It also features a ramrod under the barrel, which look to be original and still removes easily!
Condition is very nice, showing wear from age and use, and shows a lovely polished steel patina on the metalwork, making the gold easier to see. The wood stock is in very good shape, though there is some splitting near the muzzle, as we often see on these older pistols. There is also some chipping around the lock, which has a raised carved border around it. The lock is functional, however it does not hold at half cock.
A charming example, ready to research and display!
