Original Item: Only One Available. This is a classic French Revolutionary saber! One of the most attractive swords adopted by Napoleon Bonaparte is this a genuine HUSSAR OFFICER saber with a curved and decorated blade. The more than 15 years of successes for NAPOLEON’S French Army all over the Continent of Europe amazed the World. It seemed his military prowess had no equal. Victory followed Victory until the final Battle at WATERLOO in 1815 ended Bonaparte.
This magnificent sword features full brass mounts which were originally smothered in heavy gold gilding. It is of truly classical line shaving a checkered wood grip, straight cross guard and a double chained hand guard which really only served to keep the sword secured in the Officer’s hand whilst in combat. The curved blade is 32″ long and still bears its original blue finish with gold inlay and decoration. The sword is 38″ in overall lenght.
This is exactly the model of sword carried by Hussar Officers at all the great Napoleonic Battles, including The Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The original scabbard is leather covered wood with very large brass mounts (once Gilded) both to top and bottom: only 4″ of the leather is exposed. The mounts are heavily embossed and engraved with MEDUSA Heads and foliate decorations. There are two scabbard suspension rings.
A truly magnificent Officer’s Saber from the French 1ST EMPIRE, complete with its original scabbard, extremely rare and ready to display.
