Original Item: Only One Available. Dating from the 1750s this fine flintlock pistol was made and signed by the famous French family of gun makers COIGNET of St. Etienne. Starting in 1744 they continued in business until just after Napoleon’s defeat in 1815. They were known for furnishing aristocratic officers with privately purchased side arms of high quality. This lovely pistol is no exception.
Features of note include; all brass mounts, the wood stock is beautifully carved with decoration behind the barrel tang around the trigger guard and all along and under the fore end. 8 ½ inch octagonal half round barrel with raised foresight. The original ramrod retains the original reversible worm on the end to draw a loaded charge if necessary.
Measures 14 ½ inches in overall length this is exactly the sort of Flintlock pistol a colonialist would have carried during the American Revolutionary War of 1776-1783. Offered in excellent and tight condition this is an ideal example of a French officer’s flintlock pistol of the mid 18th century.
