Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting French “turnover” percussion pistol, with aspects of the 17th and 18th century style. It may have originally been much longer, but now the barrels are 9 1/2″ in length. We also feel that originally it was almost certainly a flintlock example, but was converted to percussion in the 19th century, as countless flintlocks were. It has an iron butt Cap surrounded by Ivory studs and the wood stock carved intricately overall, with some “Strawberry Leaf” style motifs. What appears to be a set trigger setting in the trigger guard is in fact the barrel turning release.
Functionally, the barrel release works well and the barrel assembly turns and locks into place correctly. We checked the lock action and it is just fine, holding at half cock and firing at full. The pistol shows great age and definitely looks to have seen its fair share of use over the centuries.
A very interesting pistol, now fitted with new percussion nipples, but might stand a conversion back to flintlock for the advanced Gunsmith or Collector. Really interesting and full of potential!
