Original Item: Only One Available. This sword may well have seen service with the 1st Empire and Emperor Napoleon however it now has the Model 1822 pattern brass hilt assembly. Many Napoleonic era swords were given new hilts after the final defeat at Waterloo as the French were turning to face a new era.
This sword comes complete with the original leather grip covering but only traces of the brass grip binding wire remains. It has the Cuirassier four-branch guard and the 1822 raised cap brass pommel.
The blade is the standard huge double fuller AN X1 type but the original arsenal markings and date have been removed from the spine. If you look very carefully you can still see slight traces of these original markings but it is very difficult.
Included is the original cuirassier scabbard but this is heavily pitted externally, clearly from very long storage in some damp outbuilding. This is a nice UNTOUCHED example of an original sword that got updated as the years passed by.
