Original Item: Only One Available. Measuring just 4″ X 3⅞” X 3/4″ thick, this is a gorgeous small French marble sundial, with the iron gnomon still intact. This is a very scarce piece, the first of its kind we have offered.
As the earth rotates on its axis, the gnomon casts a shadow onto the marble which is incised with Roman Numerals. Directly under the tip of the angled gnomon is “XII”, indicating noon. The numbers to the left of XII run counterclockwise, starting with “VI”. On the opposite side, the numerals continue in a counterclockwise manner, terminating in a second “VI” (which would be PM if the sundial is orientated properly).
The phrase Lou tems passo, passo lou ben is engraved into the face, which translate to Time passes, spend it well. This is a great colonial sundial, ready for further research and display.
