Original Item: Only One Available. Dating probably from the 1790’s, this is a fine all BRASS Box lock Blunderbuss pistol in Flintlock. Features a slab wood butt with some SILVER wire inlay, Engraved Stands of Arms to the sides of the frame with a brass blunderbuss barrel measuring 5 1/2″ in length and Overall 10 1/2″. There is a steel ramrod mounted on the right side of the barrel and under the barrel there is a hinged Sprig Bayonet measuring 3 1/2″. The spring bayonet is activated by pulling back on spring loaded trigger guard. The top of the barrel is engraved with the French Maker’s name of:
BIZOUARD A MARSEILLE
The top action lock also features a half-cock safety, which also locks closed the frizzen over the pan.
This maker started around 1788 and the business was continued by his son/grandson Claude from 1840 to 1866 at 22 Rue D’Aubagne, Marseille. This maker is now primarily for supply of arms to the French Naval Officers stationed in the South of France serving in the Mediterranean Fleet.
