Original Item: Only One Available. This is a U.S. Colt 1851 Navy Revolver replica gun and is marked BKA 98 which is a code stamped on replica guns by the German crime ministry. BKA stands for ‘Bundeskriminalamt‘, which literally means: federal criminal agency. All replica guns, made and sold in Germany should have a stamp of approval by this agency, with a number referring to the type. In this case the number 98 does not refer to the year 1998, but type 98 was how the Colt 1851 Navy was classified by the German crime ministry. This replica made in Spain was imported to the US directly from Spain but the markings were never removed for the American market.
Gettysburg is the 1993 war drama that depicts the events of the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg during the American Civil War. For the massive battle scenes, the production employed Civil War reenactors who provided their own kit, allowing the shooting of the scenes on a relatively modest budget, and making the uniforms and weapons seen remarkably accurate for the period. First airing as a two night event on the TNT network, Gettysburg was subsequently released on video as a four hour feature length film. Several characters from this film would return in the 2003 feature film prequel, Gods and Generals. Gettysburg is based on the novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara (whose son Jeff wrote the Gods and Generals novel).
Several Union and Confederate officers, including Thomas Chamberlain (C. Thomas Howell), use Colt 1851 Navy revolvers. There are a number of background actor “Officers” using Colt 1851 Navy revolvers which are non-firing. This example is non-firing and offered in good condition.
This full scale all metal example was acquired from the Ellis Props and Graphics liquidation auction. Ellis was the oldest and the largest Prop House in California until its liquidation auctions in late 1999 and early 2000.
