Original Item: Only One Available. Well this is really out of the past, coming to us from a Country House Sale in the North of England. Here is an essential item for any home not equipped with FULL CENTRAL HEATING! Company director Christian Cranmer grew up in England, and he’s certainly familiar with this fact.
Here is a most appealing Bed Warmer that the servants would fill with red coals and slide over the bed sheets before the Master slipped between the sheets. Our example features a very ornate pan in the shape of a large jar, the lid is 7 1/2″ across and when closed is about 4″ high. It has a turned wood handle 31″ long including its mounting collar, and overall measures approximately 38″ long.
The metal parts are all of COPPER. The bowl of the pan has seen use with many old dents etc…, which give it great character. The lid is engraved:-
Capt. Anthony Welsh
1707
Above this is a “Fouled Anchor” motif, indicating that Captain Welsh was in the ROYAL NAVY. Note in the photographs that the “H” in ANTHONY has been added to the name ANTONY being injected above the original engraving. Is that charming or what?
This is genuine, old and just compelling. Very possibly taken by Captain Welsh on his sea going travel in the name of “Good Queen Anne” who ruled 1702-1714.
Complete with its brass hanging ring to top of the haft, this is ready to display!
