Original item: One Only. This Assegai fighting spear dates from the time of the great Zulu Chief SHAKA, and this was used in combat hand to hand fighting. The iron head measures 25″ in length with a width of 2 inches, and is covered in ancient rust and corrosion. The 31″ wood shaft, bowed with age, is covered in decoration of sheet copper “staples” laid out in design, which also make the spear easier to grip. Overall length of 56″. Clearly this has seen a lot of combat.
The twine or wire wrapping that would have once gone over the leather at the end of the handle is unfortunately missing, though the imprint is still in the leather. The Zulu Assegai is a must for Victorian history buffs or collectors of the Martini-Henry rifle.
