Original Item: Only One Available. When anyone says “Supposedly………”, one’s immediate response is that you are about to be regaled with some highly unlikely story, and you’d be right. It’s possible that this was found very close to the Battlefield outside of Culloden, where the Jacobite forces of Charles Edward Stuart were finally defeated in 1746, but many other stories would be just as convincing. So never mind about the CULLODEN claim, just look at the broadsword for what it is.
Here is an excavated weapon dating from the early 1700s, the blade in a very eaten away condition fitted with a classic heavily eaten basket hilt of common design. The very best thing going for it is its fretted wood grip that lost its leather covering hundreds of years ago. The sword measures 35 1/2″ and the single edged blade just 30″. We do not think this was ever “buried” but maybe just stored in an old Cow Shed or Barn where it virtually rusted away. Still nice and tight and certainly a Broadsword that looks as if it took part of the final Jacobite Rebellion.
