Original Item: Only One available. This is a very nice Danish WWI Model 1882 Naval Cutlass with Scabbard, made by the Legendary Firm Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie of Solingen Germany. The design is somewhat interesting, with a relatively thin and light blade, with an edge that gently slopes inward after the ricasso. This is marked with the standard WKC export marking:
WEYERSBERG
KIRSCHBAUM & CIE
SOLINGEN
This company is a famous manufacturer of military swords and cutlery in Solingen, Germany – a city famous since the middle ages for its metal-working and craftsmanship in sword making. Per J. Anthony Carter’s fine work GERMAN SWORD AND KNIFE MAKERS, the traditional manufacturing of swords at WKC dates back to the year 1774 when the Weyersberg family first registered the ”Kings head” as their trademark. Later in 1883 the company merged with the Kirschbaum family and the company WKC was formed as it exists today.
The hilt has a lovely Shark skin wrapped grip with brass wire binding, protected by a brass shell/basket guard with cast in CROWN over FOULED ANCHOR. The sword comes complete in brass mounted black leather scabbard. It has an overall length of 31″, with a mostly Straight 25″ blade with signs of sharpening.
In very nice condition, ready to display!
