Original Items: Only One Set Available. These came out of the woodwork from a little old lady, a widow, who came into the store of one of our most faithful suppliers in Nottingham, England. Her name was Mrs GIBSON and her husband had been a Glider Pilot in the R.A.F. in WW2. Now we all remember the PEGASUS BRIDGE” operation during the night before the D-Day landings when the British Commandos captured the ORNE RIVER BRIDGE, faithfully re-enacted by RICHARD TODD in the great Movie “THE LONGEST DAY”. His orders were “HOLD UNTIL RELIEVED” and that is what they did.
C.H. GIBSON was one of those Glider Pilots, unfortunately no relation to GUY PENROSE GIBSON, of Squadron 617, THE DAM BUSTERS fame. Nevertheless he served and he survived to live to be a very ripe old age.
Here we offer an authentic “NAMED” set of leather Pilot’s Flight Helmet and it’s matching, also named, Flying Goggles each side with split lenses. All in very good antiqued condition and totally authentic. The Gosport’ speaking tube C type brown leather flight helmet is lined in soft tan sheepskin chamois leather, and still has it’s elastic chin strap, which is still relatively stretchy. The lining also marked in turquoise ink with 2057280 / GIBSON. The MkVIII Flying goggles are similarly marked but include at the end of GIBSON, the initials “C.H.”, and also still have a bit of stretch in the elastic, though only a bit.
Really nice WW2 Set in great condition, ready to display or even wear.
