Original Item: One of a kind. Did you ever see the great Movie BATTLE OF BRITAIN, starring among others Michael Caine? It has a sequence that features the 609 West Riding Squadron of Spitfires and Hurricane Fighter aircraft, whose Battle Motto was “:TALLY-HO”. This was from the County of Yorkshire and they were among the “FEW,” meaning the few airman that saved England from AH’s planned invasion of 1940.
This trophy is in the style of a 17th. Century Hunting horn with pewter mounts. It measures just about 11″ in overall length. There is a pewter shield on it’s side stating:-
609
W.R. SQUADRON
“TALLY HO”
Condition of the horn is very good, though there is some denting around the mouthpiece, and one of the hanger loops has broken off from the ferrule. Clearly an item from the Squadron’s Officer’s Mess from a time when England stood alone. Most attractive and ready to display, circa 1940.
