Original Items: Only One Set Available. This is a wonderful brown leather chamois-lined flying helmet with elastic snap chinstrap. This is an early war example dating from 1939-1942. This fine example comes without front goggle straps and features an elastic chinstrap and a built in clip on the right side to accommodate the oxygen mask attachment hook. Helmet is approximate US size 7 1/4 (58cm).
Overall condition is nice, though it does show wear from use and age, especially on the interior. The elastic in the chin strap still works a little bit, but has mostly let go over the hears. There are markings in the left ear interior, where it is also marked with name SHERRETT, most likely the last name of the pilot who wore it. Exterior leather is in very good condition.
The goggles are wonderful, classic MkVIII goggles featuring leather construction with steel eye brackets encasing clear laminated glass lenses withno cracks or chips, just a bit of delamination. They still have the classic cotton securing strap, though unfortunately the elastic has deteriorated. These goggles appear to be private purchase, and are much easier to adjust than the official issue. They are marked Stadium MADE IN ENGLAND under the right lens, with patent information under the left.
Overall a fantastic authentic WWII Royal Air Force pilot flying set offered in very good to excellent condition!
