Original British Victorian Pair of Carriage Lamps Converted to Electricity – circa 1880 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an item that originated with company director Christian Cranmer’s GREAT GRANDFATHER, who was born in 1838 and died in 1908. He of course never knew him and his Father was only three when he was born in 1905. They were packed away in a TEA CHEST and never opened until about 2012 when all the remaining family possessions were finally shipped over from England upon the sale of the last family Real Estate over there. The chest contained one Single and two pairs of Carriage lamps and this Pair is the last of them, the others already sold on this web site over the last six weeks.

These are most impressive, and are Lamps for mounting on either side of a Carriage, which were originally fitted with kerosene burners. All of that system is now gone, and they were re-wired to the very primitive pre-WWI electrical system.

The lamps otherwise look complete and are made of iron plates with brass mountings and glass windows, none of which are broken. The lamps stand 24″ tall, the front light windows are octagonal and measure 6″ X 5″. These examples intended to be on the be mounted on either side of the carriage, each being a mirror image of the other. Each has two beveled panes of glass, one shining forward and one to the side, left and right. They even have small red panes in the back for the rear marker lights.

They are painted black and mounted in Brass with decorations. One lamp comes with its iron mount, probably fitted for use in a residence at some time, the second mount is absent.
