Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original British manufactured and issued P1898 Infantry Sword, still in its original nickel plated steel field scabbard. The ricasso is marked with a brass plug set in a six-pointed star that reads: PROVED. The steel hilt guard is plain, with two accessory branches. The blade has some lovely etching under the nickel plate, and bears a Royal Cypher of Queen Victoria, with the V on one side and R on the other.
Similar swords were almost certainly carried by British Officers leading Gurkha troops in World War One. Each sword was originally issued with two scabbards, one all steel that was sometimes even nickel plated for parade use as well as a steel mounted dark leather scabbard referred to as a field scabbard that was intended for use in battle. Only a field scabbard is included with the purchase of this sword.
A very nice Victorian Issue infantry sword with a nice nickel plated blade, complete with scabbard and ready to display!
