Original Item: Only One Available. Dating to the late Victorian era of 1880-1900, this is a very fine example of a typical leather covered telescope, ideal for a Saddle bag purchased by a British Officer. This telescope would have accompanied him on the Campaigns of the era: the Zulu war in South Africa, the Nile wars in Egypt and the continual struggle Great Britain had with India.
The telescope measures 17 1/2″ when fully closed, extending with a Single Draw to 25″ when fully opened, with sun shade extension on the forward side and a lens cover on the eyepiece. The telescope barrel seems to be brass, however the fittings and inner draw tube seem to be solid nickel silver. It is maker marked with Ross / London on the eye piece barrel.
In great functional condition, ready to display.
