Original Item: Only One Available. The owner of this blue cloth helmet and tin was named G.J. PLACE and he was an officer on the 3rd Northumberland (Newcastle) Artillery Volunteers. This regiment was formed in the Spring of 1860 the Corps quickly reach six batteries by 1863. It was initially armed with 18 and 24 pounder muzzle loading cannon. It was later to receive two 40-pounder breach loading guns.
The tin is finely engraved on brass name plate as follows:

There is also a wonderful makers plate that reads:

The helmet has a ball top and a Queen’s Crown to the top of the gilt helmet plate. The helmet is offered in good condition with sigbs of age and some gilding remaining to the mounts and comes complete with is chained chin scales. T
