Original Item: Only one available. British Home Service issue cavalry carbines are extremely hard to find. This model is 40″ in overall length has a 23″+ barrel, and is fitted with the original trapped swivel ramrod which allowed reloading while on horse back and eliminated the possibility of the mounted trooper dropping his ram rod.
The original Saddle Bar is still in place on the left side of the weapon allowing a hook to be inserted onto a running ring attached to a body sling worn by the trooper thereby controlling fire using only one hand and again ensuring that the Carbine would just dangle from the body sling should the trooper be forced to let go of it during battle.
The Percussion Lock shows engraved “Crown” over “V.R.”, is dated “1854” over “TOWER” and has London barrel proof marks. In overall very nice condition this weapon shows neither foreign nor Colonial markings and may very well have only seen Home Service.
