CARRIED LT. COL. P.H.S. BARROW IN THE SUDAN
Lieutenant Colonel Percy Harry Stanley BARROW of the 19th Hussars fought at the Battle of Tel el-Kebir in the Anglo-Egyptian War in 1882, and again at the Battle of
Abu Klea in 1885 against the Dervishes of the Mahdi in the Sudan. A very popular officer of considerable means, he personally subsidized the Officer’s Mess of the Regiment, greatly boosting morale and becoming greatly loved. Unfortunately after only one day’s illness he died in Cairo, Egypt in 1886.
A fine Charger’s Fore Hoof mounted in nickel silver mounts having a hinged hatch to top opening to reveal a a glass inkwell with white metal mounts. Silver plating overall somewhat worn but nevertheless a fine Victoria Officer’s desk accessory.
