Original Item: Only One Available. This is a late 18th century double barreled shotgun that was originally Flintlock and later converted to percussion on the mid 19th century. Made by and marked SWALLOW, LONDON in two locations at the back of the barrels.
The barrel rib and both locks were converted to percussion and marked GEBHARD a well known gunsmithing family from Tubingen, in Wurttemberg (now Germany). Gebhard was possibly the gunsmith that converted this flintlock double barreled shotgun to percussion during the 19th century.
Wood damage near left lock, easily repairable, complete with small silver escutcheon to top of wrist with original owner’s name or initials.
Featuring British proofs under the barrel, this gun is totally untouched other than the selective cleaning to the rear of the barrels to determine the markings. A true sleeper!
Typical neglected condition but still a good example of conversion from Flintlock to Percussion.
