Original Item: One-of-a-kind. Very impressive Silver decanter funnel used to decant the Officer’s evening PORT wine into its serving decanter. Wines would build up sediment over time, and it certainly was not desirable for an Officer to have anything floating in his fortified wine.
Engraved on its side is Queen Charlotte over a Fouled Naval Anchor. The lovely silver funnel measures 5 1/2″ tall and 3 1/2″ at its brim, the top being a perforated bowl to filter out sediment.
H.M.S. QUEEN CHARLOTTE was a First Rate Man-o-War of 100 guns and was launched in 1790 from the Chatham Dockyard. She was the FLAGSHIP of ADMIRAL LORD HOWE at “THE GLORIOUS 1ST OF JUNE”, the GREAT NAVAL BATTLE and victory on June 1st 1794 in the West Indies. Later in 1795 she took part in the Battle of Groix.
A fantastic naval item dating from the French Revolution period. Ready to display!
