Original Item: One Only. The Traditional Bobby helmet was named after the creator of the British Police Force, SIR ROBERT PEEL, who became Prime Minister under Queen Victoria. This early version, known as a “Rose Top,” features a blacked brass top fitting, in the shape of a rose, hence the name. This version was first issued during the WWII London “Blitz”, when German bombings were an almost daily occurrence. Due to this the helmet plate and rose are both “blackout” style, brass with a dark oxide coating.
These also were issued during certain times after WWII, as this example bears a “Queens Crown” on top of the 8 Pointed Starburst, indicating issue during the Reign of Queen Elizabeth II, which began in 1952. The interior of the plate has NORTHAMPTONSHIRE POLICE.
The helmet still retains the original leather sweatband, which is marked with size 6 ½,, and is in very good condition. The original chiN strap is present, and overall the helmet is a great example from the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign. Ready to add to your British Bobby collection!
