Original Item: Only One Available. Offered here is a very nice example of the 2nd Model Pattern 1853 Enfield Rifle Musket, produced in London, England, with brass butt plate, trigger guard and nose cap. The three steel barrel bands are held on with band springs, as typical of the 2nd model. The lock is marked TOWER / 1857 below the cap bolster, and it is marked with a QUEEN’S CROWN / V. R. to the rear of the hammer. This indicates military production for the British empire.
The Barrel bears British proof marks, but they are somewhat faded from wear, so they cannot be read, though proof marks elsewhere can be. The wood is complete and in great shape, with no structural issues and a lovely color. There are some dents and small chips, but nothing out of line for a rifle that was in service. The sight slide is present, and the bands are held correctly by the springs. The bore has surface rusting, but the three groove rifling can still be seen with a bore light.
Lock is functional, holding at half cock and firing at full.. There is little powder burn, so this is a rifle that was not used much at all. The nipple looks to be original, and does have some oxidation. The rifle still has the correct ramrod with a cleaning jag at the end.
A great chance to pick up a nice honestly British-Issued P-1853 Rifled Musket, ready to display!
