Original British Napoleonic Flintlock Tower-Marked Dragoon Pistol – 11th Light Dragoons c.1800 Original Items

Original Item: One of a Kind. This Flintlock Pistol dates to prior the Battle of Waterloo, however the 11th Light Dragoons did take part in the great battle that finally defeated Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815, so it just might just have been there. The Regiment was raised in 1715 as Colonel Phillip Honeywood’s Regiment of Dragoons. In 1751 it was re-designated as 11th Regiment of Dragoons and in 1788 as the 11TH. REGIMENT OF LIGHT DRAGOONS.

During the Napoleonic Wars he Regiment served at the Battle of BADAJOZ in April 1812 and the Battle of SALAMANCA in July 1812 in the Peninsula War. At The Battle of WATERLOO on June 18th 1815 it took part in the Great Charge of the Union Brigade against the French.

The pistol is a standard full stocked flintlock pistol, marked with the royal cypher Crown over G.R. and TOWER on the lock plate. It has all brass mounts and the bow of the brass trigger guard is engraved 11 / B / 6 , representing the 6th man in “B” Company of the 11TH LIGHT DRAGOONS. The ramrod is all steel and not of the “swivel” type later introduced with the New Land Pattern pistol.

In fine tight and all original condition showing no restoration in fine condition. Overall length of 15 1/2 inches with a 9″ .65cal smooth bore barrel, which bears British Proof Marks. A highly desirable Flintlock from the Napoleonic Wars. Ready to display.
