Original Item: Only One Available. Another extraordinary piece acquired in IMAs purchase of the Strakaty collection of Vienna, Austria.
Made by William Jover of London, this fine brass barreled flintlock blunderbuss appears to have been an under the counter gun in one of London’s leading public houses of the late 18th century.
The 16 inch swamped brass barrel is marked JOVER – LONGACRE LONDON to top and THE GEORGE INN, SOUTHWARK, an establishment still in existence today.
32 inches in overall length the inscription presumably to confirm ownership in what was after all a public setting. William Jover worked in London from 1750-1786. Perhaps London in the 1770s and 1780s was not so removed from the Wild West after all?
